How to save money tips...

We all have expenses to live that need to be paid. The key to saving money is paying attention to where your money goes and being proactive in making sure you are not over paying.

Credit Cards - Apply to lower interest credit cards or even 0% interest cards.  Consolidate multiple credit cards all to one card so you can concentrate on one payment. Credit card companies make special offers to attract new customers all the time. Start saving more now click here.

Renting an apartment - In the long run it is cheaper and more profitable to purchase a home rather than renting. Even if you think you can't afford a house payment or a down payment, you more than likely can.

If you are a 1st time home buyer there are special programs to help you purchase even with no money down. Your credit score will have a factor in the interest rate you are able to secure. Here is a nice calculator you can use to see what the price difference would be in different scenarios. http://www.ginniemae.gov/rent_vs_buy/rent_vs_buy_calc.asp?Section=YPTH

Lowering your mortgage payment - The choice to refinance your existing home can be a very smart financial decision, and there are several reasons that will help you decide if it is time to refinance.

For example, if you plan on keeping your home for a number of years, you may be able to reduce your monthly payments with a lower interest rate, shorten the term of your mortgage, or even get cash back.

Lower your property taxes - In the era of rapidly rising property values, perhaps receiving your annual property tax bill is a bit of a shock, particularly since municipalities seem to increase rates a bit every few years or so.  As a result, the vast majority of homes are over-assessed and you're likely paying more taxes than you should. Lower your heat bill - If you have a window or door that is not opened for long periods of time, a less costly do-it-yourself solution is to seal it from the inside with a plastic sheet.

You can make a temporary storm window or door by mounting the plastic sheet on a light-weight wooden frame with the same dimensions as the opening. Add a strip of felt around the frame to help make it air tight. Available online RBL Poly Bullet 16'x400' Sheeting Roll - 570

Save on electricity - This is not available yet, but when it is a must for everybody, so use your money saving tips from above and start putting some money aside for it! And don't forget to shut off the lights when you leave the room! http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/biz2/0708/gallery.next_disruptors.biz2/8.html

Stamps - Save at least $0.41 for every bill you pay. Pay online or setup automatic payments. Automatic payments also work in keeping bills paid on time and increasing your credit score.

If you mail out 10 bills per month you just saved $4.10 per month or $49.20 per year! If you invested that $49.20 per year in your 401k that pays approximately 10% a year in 20 years you would have an extra $3000 in your retirement!

Pack your Lunch - plan the night before to either cook a little extra or decide what sandwich and sides you want to take for lunch for work the next day. Average saving $6-$10 depending where you live.

Even if you only pack a lunch 3 days a week you will save at least $18 per week or $900.00 per year! If you invested that $900 per in in your 401k you would have an extra $57,000 in your retirement!

Bottled water - not so long ago everyone drank tap water. Save up to $1.49 per bottle and keep yourself healthy. Filter your water yourself...

If you consumed 1 water bottle per day, and instead used the above filter pitcher and 4 3pk's of filters, you would save approximately $450 per year! That is $28,500 more in your 401k over 20 years!

Eating out - Make it a treat, not an everyday occurrence.  Works great for date night with your significant other or a fun time with your kids once in a while. Cooking at home can be fast, fun, rewarding, and a real money saver.

A typical meal out with a family of 4 is $40-$60, if you change your number of times eating out from 3 times a week to 6 times per month you'll save approximately $4200.00 per year! That is $26,577 more in your 401k over 20 years!

Tobacco Products - if you live in a state where a pack of cigarettes is approximately $3.58, which is low compared to many state prices, and you smoke one pack per day, then you’re racking up a $1,306.70 a year habit.  If you instead put that much money toward the principal in your home you would have your house paid off 7 to 10 years sooner!

Vending machine snacks - Bring a cooler with drinks and a bag with snacks. If you include some snack items in your grocery list you will save a bundle.

For example every day Joe goes to work and buys a pop for $1.50 and a candy bar for $0.85 to get him through the day between meals. That same pop and candy bar from the grocery store as low as $0.60 and the candy bar as low as $0.30 is a savings of $1.45 per day or $377.00 per year!

A night out at the movies - Consider this, movie tickets for 2 people $14-$20, pay per view movie for the whole family $3.99, or unlimited DVD rentals from BlockBuster Online $9.99 first month and $17.99 after that. If you go out to the movies twice per month you would save $10 per month or $520 per year!
